Bible Question!

I've been reading a lot about meditation and how that helps your prayer life because it causes you to respond to the truth you are reading. So this morning I decided to try it and of course I don't fully understand the verse!!
"I said to Yahweh, "You are my Lord; I have nothing good besides You."" Psalm 16:2 HCSB

"I said to the LORD, "You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing." Psalm 16:2 NIV

What does this verse mean? Does it mean that I have absolutely NOTHING good apart from God? Or does it mean that the only good things I have come from God. For example, I consider my family a very good thing. In response to this verse, should they be nothing compared to how I view God? Does that make sense? I'm really interested to see what ya'll have to say!

  1. So being the good Bible student I am, I consulted a commentary. The commentary said that the Psalmist is saying that he has no source of good of any kind but in God. This kinda makes my brain hurt to be honest! But maybe that helps?
